THE BODY AS A PLACE OF REPRESENTATIONS

OrlanBy Rosario Gómezfrom VVAA
Throughout history, uninterruptedly, the plastic representations of the body have been very prolific either from the conception of pain, passion, love, seduction, abjection, deformation or disarticulation. We are witnessing, in artistic postmodernity, an appropriation of the body in action or performance until its subsequent transformation process based on the use of new technological instruments. We found that the body and its functions are the cohesion between art and life within the conceptions used in the action, performance, happening and the ritual or event as translinguistic processes that multiply from the 60, highlighting the performances of the Viennese Actionism. These orientations coincide with the era of the discourses of sexual liberation.

The Holistic Body. New era

By Rosario Gómez
New eraEveryone has the right to claim their right to be holy, healthy and happy.Yogi Bhajan
The fascination for new movements was present and link with different schools of ancestral symbols and yoga schools to spread wisdom, health and energy. The Body of Pain

Luis RoyoBy Rosario Gómez
The history of humanity is full of images of glorious bodies and bloody bodies. In addition to the war documentaries and the war and horror films, it can also be said that the Catholic religion has filled our memory with images of tortures and bloody vexations, ridicule, even the heart pierced by daggers, without forgetting the martyrs roasted in grills , skinned alive, with eyes or breasts on trays, dismembered on wheels, crossed by arrows and spears ... a whole series of representations of pain in which the body is massacred, it seems that pain and blood redeem us .

The Technological Sublime

Mona Hatoum. Corps êtrangerExcerpt from some considerations by Piedad Solans for the magazine Lápiz in his article The technological sublime.
The representations of the body in the electronic age often stand out because they are subject to a deconstructive process of the body that fractures, dislocates and distorts it, there is no penetration towards the mystery but dispersion, flatness and media frivolity.
The body, in postmodernity, is not the last refuge of authenticity, as it was in the seventies, but the privileged support of the artificial, the simulated, the aggressive, that is, of the dominant aspects in a society held hostage by the industry of the images, of the computer science and although of more recent way, of the genetics.
