Series: Identity. The Magic of Names

INTRODUCTION
Artistic essays for an abstract female iconography. A syncretic poetics with archaic influences.

In the last decade of the millennium, I went into an investigation on female iconology that resulted in a series of sculptures with anthropological bias, some of them ephemeral. In contrast to phallic character forms, they were conceived as icons linked to the symbolism of femininity and body (matrix, pelvis, sacral bone, brain ...).

Almost all of these works were developed in the field of geometric abstraction and emerged as a search for symbols of representation of internal energies associated with receptivity and the power of meditation. It is treated as a whole of a work of religious syncretism in which concepts of various religions and pre-Christian ancestral cults come to form part, under a transpersonal perspective.

I am currently working on a process of hypertextual compilation and reconstruction of the material generated in these art essays that began in the 90 years. Most of the works in this series have been exhibited in different art centers, some of them have been selected in scholarships and competitions, both nationally and internationally.

As usual in my projects, I start from everyday objects, some recycled and taken out of context. All these works are made in different geographical places and with different purposes and materials, in them there are certain references to Prehistoric, Iberian and Egyptian Art within a dynamic, usual in the twentieth century, of interest for primitive art.

All this series is related to the field of the sacred. Rooted with some customs of the pre-Christian Iberian culture, in which the cults were not developed in the temples but in places of nature chosen to mediate desires and offerings to the gods.

I rely on theories that defend a concept of femininity in which different goddess cults they favored a social development of women that was more relevant and transcendent than that allowed by patriarchal Judeo-Christian cultures. In this sense, I highlight the book Sacred Sexuality by Georg Feuerstein, who gives us a historical view of the evolution of important aspects of profane and sacred sexuality.

The subjects of reflection of the different stages were conditioned by the dynamics of the study proposed in the different Workshops of current art promoted by the Association for Contemporary Arts (HAC) in which I have participated:

  • "Energies applied to sculpture", "Art on the street". Joan Durán, sculptor and engineer
  • "Private space or interior / common or public space". Pere Noguera, povera artist and performer
  • "Reflections on the city". Antoni Muntadas, conceptual and multimedia artist

These themes of reflection led me to relate intimate aspects with aspects of social order such as environmentalism, taboo, nutrition and guided me towards a constant search for interdisciplinarity.

In short, I was getting in touch with different expressive media, such as ceramics, found materials and audiovisual media as well as approaches from various disciplines related to Social Sciences: Transpersonal Psychology and Anthropology, without excluding the constant relationship with the History of art.
